I had written the following content to read on the occasion of Balach Marri’s martyrdom anniversary. Sadly, I was unable to attend the gathering. Walid Garboni

"Here comes the time again to celebrate a legend’s martyrdom anniversary; I use world celebrate because it was a pride for Mir Balach to die for his motherland and indeed receiving martyrdom is best achievement for a fighter.

Balach loved his people, couldn’t bear people’s sufferings in the hands of Pakistanis who treated them as third class citizens and could see the evil intentions of the enemy who dreamed of occupying Baluchistan and being masters of Baluch’s children.

Had he seen a hope, Balach could have chosen to go to the parliament for which his people had elected him. However, Pakistanis under Musharraf chose rockets, bombardment, machineguns and bullets to use against Baluchistanis instead of dialogue and discussions to resolve issues harmoniously. Balach bravely resisted the Pakistani brutalities shoulder to shoulder with Nawab Akbar Shabaz Bugti.

Following Akbar Bugti’s martyrdom, Balach took the command of liberation seeking resistant Baluch force and continued defending his vulnerable people and motherland until he received martyrdom on 21st November 2007.

Mentioning Nawab Akbar Bugti, we all know, he wasn’t a soldier alone; he was a well learnt politician with experience who had ruled Baluchistan and dealt with Pakistanis in a political manner before. He tried all that he could to continue talking with the establishment and teaching them what was best for both sides. Enemy wasn’t educated enough to understand him. Hence he chose to resist the aggression.

Pakistanis thought that with the removal of Balach and Bugti they will succeed in fulfilling their evil intentions. The believers of Balach’s philosophy, which is freedom and human liberty, with their courage and determination proved Pakistanis wrong. The resistant damaged the enemies’ morals greatly. This surely is a matter of pride for Baluchistanis.

However, it isn’t wise being intoxicated by achievements. Suffering of masses, continuation of loot and plunder of Baluchistan’s wealth is ongoing, so is loss of additional precious lives. A resistant fighter’s duty doesn’t end with hitting enemy back. It also includes protecting his own. Therefore, the need for revaluation, redrawing and reengagement to overwhelm the enemy ought to be grasped.

As a part of the process a fact need to be recognized that to an extent the grass-root activists who differed with the mode of struggle, though objectives remain the liberation of Baluchistan, were casted out. This approach widened the gap between political forces of Baluchistan.

Claims of being Balach and Bugti’s followers must be proven both with appropriate words and reasonable actions. The best tribute to Mir Balach and Nawab Bugti is continuation of their rightful fight with all friendly forces aboard. The Baluch fighters might not need guns in the hands tomorrow, but tongues and pens must remain engaged until the accomplishment of all martyrs dream."
